Reflection
I had the opportunity to observe a preschool classroom. This was exciting to me as I have not had professional experience at this level. I found out that play is the biggest way the young ones seem to learn and engage. The teachers floated around the room to work with students and observe. The structured time focused on them moving their bodies to relate to the real world. I found this interesting as everything they did related to the real world. They were not memorizing facts (as is often done at the secondary level) but instead were learning to apply to real world situations. Additionally, the trauma training I attended focused on the changes in brain development from preschool through adulthood. An area I did not have a chance to see on a continuum was the alignment of curriculum from pre-school - grade 12. During my practicum, I also worked with staff and teachers K-12 while MCA testing. This included preparing staff for the test, entering students into Pearson and creating rosters, using technology for errors, testing students in small groups who were distant learners, and notifying parents of their options. I also joined the culture and climate committee to work on promoting a positive culture Pre-K - grade 12. While I feel confident in a few strands of this competency, I definitely have room to grow in my leadership at the elementary level.
