Reflection
ED 644 really helped me develop an understanding of instructional strategies. It also opened my eyes to education in the 21st century. What resonated me with is that education is one of the things that has remained stagnant in this century. Instead of keeping up with technology and encouraging students to use their technological knowledge that is engrained in them, we teach them that technology and social media are bad and don't have a place in education. Our assessments take out the creativity of many students and instead a lot of teachers try for a 'one size fits all' assessment. 21st century education is creating spaces that allow students to relax and 'play' in common areas, giving them choice, and preparing them for life beyond high school including real world predictable and unpredictable situations. In addition to the class, I created forms and communication for our distant learners using technology, created, trained, and implemented our credit recovery program, and created and implemented 504's. Due to my narrow knowledge on many instructional strategies, I would say this is an area of growth.
